Please note that the parish office will be closed on Monday, July 2 for the Canada Day long weekend. Also, for July and August, the parish office will be open Mon-Fri from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our normal evening hours will resume on September 4. Our south doors will remain open until 7 p.m. on weekdays for those who want to spend time in prayer in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

Monthly Bulletins for July and August – New

We will only be publishing bulletins once a month during July and August. To receive the latest news and updates, be sure to sign up on Flocknote to receive our weekend e-newsletters. You can sign up by going to flocknote.com/smcyyc or by texting SMCYYC to 514-900-0130.

Don’t Miss Mass during Vacation

While traveling this summer, you can find the nearest parish and Mass times by visiting www.masstimes.org. Search for parishes by postal/zip code, city, state, or country.

POTLUCK SUNDAY: SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER!

Potluck Sunday will be taking a break over the summer. Our monthly potluck fellowship will resume on September 9.

Oremus

Come and join Oremus to pray for the needs of our parish community on Monday, July 9 at 6 p.m. in the Day Chapel. We meet every second Monday of the month to pray the Vespers — the evening prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. If you’d like to join but couldn’t make it to church, please email Heather at heathermontschilling@gmail.com.

New: Vacation Bible School…for Moms! – New

Are you bringing your kids to VBS? If so, you’re invited to stay and enjoy some faith-sharing with other moms, happening at the Day Chapel after morning Mass (around 9:45 a.m.), or right at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays when there’s no morning Mass. There will be coffee and snacks before and after each stand-alone session, which lasts about an hour and a half. Feel free to come for one or attend all of these sessions.

Sandwich Friday: July 20 – New

Help us make sandwiches for the Drop-In Centre by filling loaves of bread with items such as peanut butter, ham, or turkey, and drop them off here at the church by 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 20.

ST. MICHAEL’S PARISH PICNIC

It’s that time of the year! St. Michael’s annual summer parish picnic is happening on Sunday, July 29, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Ranch (258 Mountain Lion Dr., Bragg Creek). There will be Mass at 11 a.m., so please arrive at 10:45 a.m. so we can start promptly. Tickets are $10 per family of four or $5 per person. For families of five or more, you can purchase a family ticket ($10) plus an individual ticket ($5) for each additional family member. Tickets can be purchased at the parish office or after Mass beginning on the weekend of June 9/10.

DO YOU HAVE PICTURES FROM ST. MICHAEL’S PAST?

Our 60th anniversary planning committee is looking for pictures documenting our parish community’s history, especially those of St. Michael’s early decades (late 50s through the 90s). If you have print or digital photos you’d like to share with us, visit saintmichael.ca/diamond for submission guidelines.

60TH ANNIVERSARY PHOTO DIRECTORY

In June 2019, we will be publishing a new photo directory for our 60th anniversary. We invite you and your family to have your photo included! Having your family photographed is free, and families who participate will receive a free copy of the photo directory once published. You also have the option of purchasing a copy of your picture. We have photography sittings available here at the church on August 15-18. To book your free 15-minute photography appointment, click here.

Blood Donors Needed – New

There will be a blood drive at the Hellenic Community Centre (1 Tamarac Crescent SW) on Monday, August 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. To book your appointment, visit blood.ca.

Knitting Ministry – New

Calling all knitters! We’re pleased to announce that this new ministry will be starting up in September. We will be getting together to work on items such as scarves, hats, prayer shawls, etc. for those in need. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop your knitting skills while also getting together for coffee and fellowship. Please contact Carol at 403-282-6469 for more information.

Sacraments Update – New

  • Online registration for the 2018-2019 First Reconciliation/First Eucharist is now available at saintmichael.ca/sacraments. All grade 2 students and up are welcome to participate in the program that begins next September. Deadline for registration is September 24 for both programs. Please register early to confirm your celebration spots for both sacraments.
  • Volunteer leaders needed for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist: We need volunteer teachers for our brand-new sacrament program this Fall and next Spring. Training is provided! The sessions will all be on either Saturday mornings OR afternoons (once a month) and you can help with one or all of them. The dates are: October 27, November 25, December 15, January 19, February 23, March 16, April 13, May 4, and May 11. If you can help support the sacrament journey of over 200 little ones, contact Maureen at mross@saintmichael.ca or at 403-249-0423 ext. 126.
  • Confirmation 2019: Our Confirmation Mass has not been finalized by our Bishop yet, however, teens are highly encouraged to do their four (4) hours of service with The Mustard Seed, the Food Bank, or Inn From the Cold this summer while school is out. Contact Maureen at mross@saintmichael.ca for any information about volunteering.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: SUMMER HOURS

Please note that there will be no 24-hour Eucharistic Adoration during the first Fridays of July-September. Instead, Eucharistic Adoration will be from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all Fridays during July and August, and until 10 p.m. on all Fridays of September. 24-hour Eucharistic Adoration during first Fridays will resume on Oct. 5, 2018.
