There will be 24-hour Eucharistic Adoration on Friday, Feb. 2 beginning at 9:30 a.m. For those signing up for hours after 10 p.m., please obtain an access card at the Parish Office before noon on Friday. You can also sign up by going to saintmichael.ca/events.

Blessing of Candles

As a Catholic tradition during the feast of the Presentation of our Lord, the 9 a.m. Mass on Friday, Feb. 2 will include the blessing of candles. Parishioners are invited to bring candles to this Mass so they can be blessed by the presiding priest.

Blessing of Throats

In honor of the feast of St. Blaise — patron saint of those with throat illness — there will be a special blessing of throats during the 9 a.m. Mass on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Gluten-Free Hosts

For those with Celiac disease, participating in Holy Communion is a challenge. Starting next Saturday, Feb. 3 at the 5 p.m. Mass and all future weekend Masses, there will be a Eucharistic minister distributing low-gluten hosts in a separate ciborium to prevent cross-contamination. The low-gluten hosts contain less than 0.01% gluten and are made by the Benedictine Sisters of the Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, MO. For more information on the hosts, please visit www.pbsisters.on.ca/altar-breads.

Name Tag Sunday

Next weekend is Name Tag Sunday, so we ask everyone to grab a name tag before Mass, which will be available at the Gathering Area for you to fill out.

Potluck Sunday

We are inviting you, your family, and a friend to join us for an evening of food, fun, and fellowship on Sunday, Feb. 4 after the 5 p.m. Mass. Please bring a hot or cold food item ready to serve.

A Life-Changing Experience for Teens and their Families

You: Life, Love, and Theology of the Body is a unique, six-week program for teens and their families which reveals to them their value as a person. It addresses many of the issues teens are already exposed to in the media, social pressures, and relationships. This program will be on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. beginning Feb. 12, 2018. Click here to learn more.

Palliative Care Education Program

St. Michael’s will be hosting the Diocesan Palliative Care Education Program this Spring. Palliative care is the active, compassionate care of a person whose disease is no longer responsive to traditional treatment aimed at a cure. Registration is $50, but the course is offered free of charge for St. Michael’s parishioners and for alumni of past courses. For more information, click here.

Art Walk 2018

Calling St. Michael’s artists and photographers to participate in this year’s Art Walk, happening on April 14-15, 2018. We are seeking to celebrate and honour the God-given talents in our community. Participants will be 18 years and over. Amateurs, emerging artists, and professionals are all welcome. Registration forms are available at the Parish Office or at saintmichael.ca/event/artwalk.

Last Year’s Palms

Because the palms from last year’s Palm Sunday Liturgy are blessed, they are now sacramentals. Sacramentals should be treated with respect and never be thrown away. If you would like to dispose of your palms, please bring them to the church and deposit them in the “old palms” container outside the Parish Office. Once collected, the palms will be burned for ashes.

Tax Receipts & Contribution Envelopes

A friendly reminder that if you have changed your address or phone number in the past year, ensure your information is correct with our office so your tax receipt can be issued.

If you have not already done so, please pick up your box of contribution envelopes from one of the tables in the gathering area. If you are a new parishioner and require envelopes, please register at the parish office or on our website under “Join our community.”

St. Francis Xavier Relic Pilgrimage: Thank You

Thanks to all who came to last Monday’s Relic Pilgrimage, we had an excess of over 4,700 attend. Special thanks for everyone’s patience both in the parking lot and lining up inside the church — we know that God will truly bless our parish community through the intercession of St. Francis. A special thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the evening as organized as possible, as well as to Catholic Christian Outreach for making this relic pilgrimage happen.

Youth Ministry Update

Michelle Janzen is no longer St. Michael’s Youth Coordinator. I wish Michelle and her family the very best. In the interim, our Calling Youth program will continue on the 1st Thursday of each month. On Thursday, Feb 1 at 6:30 p.m., we have asked some very special guests to help during this transition. I will keep you posted as we make progress in reaching the youth of our community – Fr. John Nemanic.

Retrouvaille Spring Retreat

You can help marriages and families stay together! By taking the Retrouvaille program, married couples can learn to use practical communication tools to bring greater intimacy to their relationship. This will be on March 9-10, 2018. For more information or to register, please visit www.helpourmarriagecalgary.com or call 403-879-7893.
