What you need to know from this weekend’s bulletin:

Forgiveness is God’s gift!

September 13, 2026

The first words uttered by Christ as he dies on the cross, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do…” summarize his life, mission and ministry. Christ’s compassion for others has inspired and moved his disciples to follow the way of the cross and the road to holiness.

As Christians, we unite ourselves in the spirit of Christ’s love and forgiveness. We resolve to carry our own crosses rather than carry grudges over the hurts that others have inflicted on us in our lives. We resolve to imitate Christ in his compassion and mercy. We resolve to become other Christs, offering absolution to enemies as well as friends who have betrayed us just as Christ has done as He dies on the cross.

Christ’s loving and forgiving words are echoed in all the liturgical celebrations, especially in the Sacrament of Reconciliation where we hear the consoling words of Christ through his priests “I absolve you from all your sins…”

We are invited to become the presence Christ’s love and forgiveness in our world. We are mandated to repeat with him His forgiving words on the cross in our daily struggle to fight against our human tendency to get even, to pout, to sulk or to seek retribution in some form.

Our Christian life is bound to be a journey of forgiveness. Fear and violence are to be confronted with the loving force of Christian forgiveness. Our Christian community has to be a community of the forgiven and the forgiving. Let us consider this basic Christian option to become a forgiving person, just as Christ was forgiving until the last breath of his life. Let our attitude of forgiveness become our legacy to a world that is full of hatred and indifference.

Let our forgiveness become not only an occasional act, but a permanent attitude.

Fr. Edmund,  fredmund@saintmichael.ca

Healing Lines

Confronting Violence and Abuse. Both survivors and persons who have offended may minimize the violence and reinterpret what occurred to excuse or erase it. For a person to say “No!” to violence and abuse, they must name violence and abuse for what it is. Jesus tells us that we cannot be his disciples if we come with hatred of others in our hearts. As we begin this time of school and fall activities let us recognize any violence or abuse and confront it. Let us interact with each other with compassion, love and support.

Stewardship Weekends: September 12 & 13 and 19 & 20

As we enter the season of harvest, we are reminded of the many ways we share our time, talent, and treasure at Saint Michael Catholic Community. On our Stewardship Weekends, we invite you to: * Explore our eight new prospective ministries by scanning the QR code on cards that will be placed on the pews in the Sanctuary.  * Consider serving with Alpha, returning to Saint Michael’s in January.  * Discover an existing ministry through the new Volunteers & Ministries Booklet that will be available in the Narthex. Where is the Lord of the Harvest calling you to serve? Thank you for sharing your gifts and helping our parish community grow in Christ.

Healing Mass at St. Michael

A Healing Mass will be held on Friday, September 25 at 7:00 pm in the Day Chapel. There will be the blessing of water and olive oil, anointing and laying on of hands, as well as prayers for intentions. This Healing Mass is a way for our community to come together in Christ for healing, comfort, and strength. If pastorally required, this can be celebrated every last Friday of the month. Everyone is welcome.

Parish Rosary Rally:

Sunday, October 11, 2026 / St. Michael’s Sanctuary / Rosary 10:15 am / Consecration Prayer at 11am Mass / Refreshment after 11am Mass.

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20) You are warmly invited to join our parish family as we gather in the church for a powerful Rosary Rally on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Our world, our country, families and neighborhoods need the healing power of prayer more than ever.  By coming together as one large body in front of our Blessed Mother, her son Jesus, and St. Joseph, we pray for world peace, the conversion of sinners, and spiritual/physical/mental protection for our community and our families and friends. Whether you pray the rosary daily or haven’t picked up your beads in years, your voice matters. Let us fill our sacred Sanctuary with a beautiful chorus of prayer, standing in solidarity with one another to call down God’s mercy.
