Bulletin: 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
What you need to know from this weekend’s bulletin:
The Theology of Rejection
October 4, 2026
“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone…”
In many ways, Christian spirituality is based on rejection. The people and circumstances we tend to reject are the same people and circumstances that become our strength and salvation. Our relationship with those whom we tend to reject is the real test of our Christian maturity. Indeed, God disguises Himself in the lives of those whom we tend to reject or dislike. Moments that try our souls or the experiences that push us to our limits are the same moments or experiences that make us realize the presence of God’s love and providence in our lives. They turn into opportunities for growth and renewal. They are blessings in disguise.
We too find ourselves in difficult and challenging situations. These are the times when we are called to listen to God’s voice speaking through others, especially those we tend to reject and through the experiences that make us frustrated or lose faith in ourselves or even in God. We have difficulty to recognize the presence of God in those He sends, especially when these messengers are people whom we know too well or not too well. Jesus Himself found His messages being rejected by the people who were supposed to listen to Him because of the difficulties and challenges they encountered in their lives.
We too find ourselves in difficult and challenging situations. These are the times when we are called to listen to God’s voice speaking through others, especially those we tend to reject and through the experiences that make us frustrated or lose faith in ourselves or even in God. In the Old Testament, Joseph the dreamer, rejected by his own brothers because he was different, became the instrument of bringing his own people to Egypt, including his own brothers and built them into a new nation. Christ is the new Joseph who builds up our new community of faith. Christ is the stone rejected by the builders that has become the cornerstone.
May the Sacrifice of the Mass, which redeems our broken humanity, help us realize more and more that our own experiences of rejection are our own share of Christ’s cross that leads to victory over sin and death.

Violence pervades many human relationships. The relationships between people of different skin color, religion, culture, nationality, and class have all been marked by violence. The relationship between men and women is also marred by violence. Statistics show that most of the survivors of this violence are female, and most of those offending have been male. This reflects the power dynamics in our society, where patriarchal forces still generally give men more power than women. While the home is often the most dangerous place for women and children, the term “domestic violence” misses the connection between violence outside and inside the home. Violence against women is a term that shows these connections. Let us be always aware and available to support those affected by violence in any form.

Parish Rosary Rally:
Sunday, October 11, 2026 / St. Michael’s Sanctuary / Rosary 10:15 am / Consecration Prayer at 11am Mass / Refreshment after 11am Mass.
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20) You are warmly invited to join our parish family as we gather in the church for a powerful Rosary Rally on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Our world, our country, families and neighborhoods need the healing power of prayer more than ever. By coming together as one large body in front of our Blessed Mother, her son Jesus, and St. Joseph, we pray for world peace, the conversion of sinners, and spiritual/physical/mental protection for our community and our families and friends. Whether you pray the rosary daily or haven’t picked up your beads in years, your voice matters. Let us fill our sacred Sanctuary with a beautiful chorus of prayer, standing in solidarity with one another to call down God’s mercy.
