Bulletin: 34th Sunday in Ordinary Time
What you need to know from this weekend’s bulletin:
A Kind of Kingship
November 21, 2021
The French philosopher Blaise Pascal classifies reality in three orders. These orders, according to their increasing importance and value, are: the order of body (which includes visible things, money and politics), the order of mind (which includes knowledge, understanding and artistic talent) and the order of charity (which includes love, wisdom and grace). The second order is infinitely higher than the first one. The third order is infinitely superior to the two other orders.
Christ’s kingship belongs more to the last order of charity. His kingdom was a totally of a different order and reality. In today’s gospel, Jesus speaks to Pilate with a mastery and a majesty which suggest a complete transcendence over the power of Rome.
The greatness of Christ in chains dominates history and universe. The reality of His kingship belongs to the highest order in the classification of Blaise Pascal. His kingship is that of love, wisdom and grace. No kingdom has a power comparable to the power of love.
“Almighty and merciful God, you break the power of evil and make all things new in your Son Jesus Christ, the King of the universe. May all in heaven and earth acclaim your glory and never cease to praise you. Amen.” (Opening Prayer)

Rite of Commissioning Ceremony
All Eucharistic ministers with or without the recent renewal mandate will all be re-commissioned at the start of every liturgical year, starting with the First Sunday of Advent being, November 28. Therefore, after the homily on the weekend of November 27-28, Auxiliary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist are asked to come forward to the Altar space to be re-commissioned. Other liturgical Ministers and volunteers are requested to stand in their places to receive a blessing.
Blessing of Anniversary Couples
There will be a special blessing for couples that have celebrated a wedding anniversary this month on the weekend of November 27-28. Let us celebrate the sacrament of Marriage as an essential component of our life as a Christian community.
SSVP Christmas Hampers:
Hamper Night is on December 14
We are happy to announce that St. Michael’s will have Christmas hamper distributions this year. Due to COVID restrictions, we will have a smaller event, but we need your assistance more than ever as requests for help at Christmas are coming in. SSVP is working to meet the needs and deliver hampers while maintaining the safety of our volunteers and recipients.
This year, we’re unable to handle food donations but we will process Angel Tree gifts. SSVP will purchase all required food from our wholesaler and would welcome your support for this in the form of monetary donations. Donations to SSVP may be dropped in the collection basket, placed in a green SSVP donation envelope and dropped at the church in the SSVP locked box located in our Food Chest, or made online: Donate Now– St. Michael Catholic Community (Canadahelps.org). Please select: Society of St. Vincent de Paul (including Christmas Hampers) in the “Funds” drop-down menu. Tax receipts will be issued in January 2022 for any monetary donations.
Our hamper assembly efforts require some volunteers spread out over a period of several days prior to hamper delivery evening. Stay tuned for further details. For more information, contact hampervolunteers2021@gmail.com.
Drivers Needed for Hamper Delivery
We require 2 adults per car for the hamper delivery. Volunteers please email hampervolunteers2021@gmail.com. We will email you the Model Code of Conduct form for volunteers delivering hampers to sign and return. If volunteers do not have a partner we will match you up with someone else without a partner.
Angel Tree
The Angel tree table will be setup in the Gathering Area after Weekend Masses on November 21, 27 and 28. For all those interested in purchasing a gift, angels with gift ideas will be available at the table. For those of you unable to attend Mass in person to obtain an angel you can still purchase a gift for a child in need. Email us at 2021angeltree@gmail.com and indicate how many angels you would like to buy gifts for. Please provide your name and a contact phone number.
We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to dispense angels on the above mentioned dates. If you would like to volunteer, or have any questions, please contact SSVP@saintmichael.ca.
2022 Contribution Envelopes
Next year’s 2022 contribution envelopes are now available for pickup in the Gathering Area. Please look for your name alphabetically-organized, and note that your number may have changed from last year. If you have any questions, call the parish office at 403-249-0423.
Indoor Social Gatherings
Due to provincial temporary measures, indoor social gathering after Mass or in the parish halls is not permitted. Please refrain from socializing in the Church after Mass.
