Bulletin: 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Posted 2018-02-11 by @saintmichaelyyc

Note: contrary to the printed bulletin that you picked up at church this weekend, Mary O’Regan is, in fact, alive but not well — she broke her leg skiing. Please keep her in your prayers for a speedy recovery!

Lent begins this week!

The 40-day celebration of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, when we practice personal and communal observance of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving in preparation for the joy of Easter. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the two days when Catholics aged 18 to 59 are obligated to fast and abstain from meat unless a physical condition prevents otherwise. Fasting is defined as eating one meal a day and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity. The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from eating meat for those aged 14 and older. In keeping with the penitential spirit of Lent, the Sunday Masses during Lent are subdued as we do not sing the Gloria and the Alleluia. Sundays are excluded from the Lenten fasting and abstinence restrictions are not numbered in the traditional 40 Days of Lent—as they are always considered “little Easters”. Below are the additional Mass and Sacramental Reconciliation times for this Lent. You can also find more information by visiting, saintmichael.ca/lent.
