Trinity is Community!

The celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity is about the unity among the three persons in one God. This unity in God in three persons is the original blueprint of our sense of community, our oneness with one another. Our love for one another is based on the self-giving love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Our sense of community enhances our social nature. We are created to be part of the community. We are born through the intimacy of our parents who are supposed to be one in heart and mind as they pledge their love for one another. We cannot live or survive alone. No one is an island. We find our fulfillment in community.
When Christ came into the world, He chose to be part of a family through the loving kindness of His mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and His foster father, St. Joseph who looked after them. The Holy Family becomes the example and model for our families in terms of their love and care for one another. Their sense of oneness in being obedient to God’s will characterizes their thoughts, their actions, and their plans. Their respective roles in their family relationship prove to be crucial to the accomplishment of God’s plan of salvation.
As Church, we imitate God’s oneness among the three different persons. Our unity in diversity is patterned after the diversity of the three persons who all act and live in this principle of oneness in love and loyalty. Our care and concern for another is dictated by the Trinitarian love for all of us, as exemplified by the love of the Second Person in His sacrificial death for the forgiveness of our sins. We are saved not alone, but together as community. We find our salvation in through one another.
As Church, we express this unity through our common participation in the mysteries that Christ has left us to celebrate, especially the Eucharist which has become the source and center of our Christian life. Says St. John Paul II: “For what is the bread? It is the Body of Christ. And what do those who receive become? The Body of Christ – not many bodies but one body.” The Eucharist is our sacrament of unity. The Eucharist expresses our oneness in Christ, our unity with the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as our unity with one another.

After Pentecost, the followers of Jesus formed a caring community where the needs of each person were attended to (Acts 2:43-47). The community of faith was empowered by the gifts of God’s Spirit (1 Corinthians 12 and 13) to begin to live our “shalom” vision and to reach out to others. What gifts can your family offer to the ministry of reconciliation? In your neighborhood? In your school? In your workplace? In your church? Ask God to help you become aware of the gifts that the Spirit has given you which you could offer to your family, your congregation, and the community as they seek to live and minister in non-violating ways.

40 Hours for Vocations
St. Michael’s will be hosting 40 Hours for Vocations beginning Friday, May 29 at 3:00 pm and continuing until Sunday, May 31 at 8:00 am, with a one-hour pause during the Saturday 5:00 pm Mass. Join us in Eucharistic Adoration as we pray for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, consecrated and religious life, and marriage. We are seeking at least two adorers for every hour so that Our Lord is never left alone. Please prayerfully consider signing up for one hour of adoration. Click here to register.
Vocations Rally
The third annual diocesan Vocations Rally will take place on Trinity Sunday, May 31, here at St. Michael’s. The day begins with the 11:00am Mass celebrated by Bishop McGrattan, followed by lunch, talks, panelists, displays, and more! All are welcome to attend to learn more about the different vocations in the Church and to receive tools for discernment. Click here to to register.
SSVP “Poor Box” Collection
There will be a “Poor Box” collection after all Masses on May 30 & 31 by members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Funds will be used to serve those most in need in our community. Thank you for your generous support!
Pastoral Council Meeting – May 2026
Pastoral Council had its last business meeting before the summer break on May 26. As usual, it was a full agenda, including an update on plans for two Stewardship weekends in September (12 & 13 and 19 & 20) and plans to reintroduce Alpha in 2027. If you would like to attend one of our meetings as an observer, or if you have any questions or concerns, please send an email to info@saintmichael.ca. The meeting minutes for May 2026 will be published after Pastoral Council approval at our next meeting, scheduled for September 2026. Healing Mass at St. Michael
Every last Friday of the month, there will be a Healing Mass at St. Michael Parish. There will be the blessing of water and olive oil, anointing and laying on of hands, as well as prayers for intentions. All parishioners are encouraged to take note and participate. This pastoral initiative is a way of reaching out to those who need healing and bringing them to Christ for healing, comfort, and strength. Thank you, and God bless you all.
Potluck Sunday
The last Potluck Sunday before summer is June 7 and it will then take a break for July and August. This is a free event. Please bring a main dish, bread, salad, pickles, vegetable tray, or dessert to share with others, and bring your food ready to serve. The first Potluck Sunday in the fall will be Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Vacation Bible Camp 2026:
“Rainforest Falls – Exploring the Nature of God”
* SMCC 5-day Vacation Bible Camp (VBC) 2026 has limited spots available (50) for all students/minors aged Kindergarten (6yrs.) to Grade 12. * Online registration is now open. * Thank you to those who have already engaged with our Parish Volunteer Coordinator, Gladys. Together in Action (TIA)
The Together in Action 2026 campaign begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The theme for this year’s TIA is inspired by the Jubilee Year of St. Francis. “But someone will say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.” (James 2:18) This year’s TIA also marks the final year of the financial commitment of the Diocese to the National Indigenous Reconciliation Fund, supporting Indigenous-led initiatives across Southern Alberta. Our target goal this year is $121,243, same as last year. We thank God for your generosity! All surplus funds this year will go to our Building Fund to help pay our loan.
