Year-end giving appeal
Help your parish this #GivingTuesday
Most people know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In fact, many take advantage of the shopping deals on these days and get a head start on their Christmas shopping!
But for us, we celebrate what in the world of charitable giving is commonly called Giving Tuesday, which marks a global movement for charitable giving.
On this special day, we ask that you remember your parish in your year-end giving and invite you to make a donation to St. Michael’s. As some of you may know, the parish does not receive funding from other sources and relies entirely on your generosity, which funds everything we do as a church. Now, with the pandemic affecting normal church attendance, our monthly offerings have also suffered.
For those who regularly attend St. Michael’s but haven’t felt the need to contribute to the needs of the parish, this is the time your parish needs you. Making a one-time gift or setting up a regular monthly donation will be immensely helpful.
For our regular donors, we honour you for your sacrificial giving. If your parish has blessed you especially during this time of pandemic, we invite you to consider upping the ante — if you are able to offer something extra during this season of giving, we would be tremendously grateful.
Never has the work of the church been more critical than it is today, especially when many are experiencing desolation as a result of the pandemic and our current social climate — and we appeal to your generosity to help keep the parish running.
In particular, this year our Building Fund has suffered significantly. Our current collection is significantly less than what it was in 2019, and less than half compared to previous years.
Understanding the financial burden that parishes are facing, the Diocese of Calgary has already suspended collecting interest payments as well as the cathedraticum (14.5% parish assessment) since April of this year. With regard to the annual Bishop’s appeal Together in Action, the diocese is no longer holding St. Michael’s to this year’s goal amount. Yet in spite of these, our monthly Building Fund collection is still significantly low. For this reason, we ask that you consider contributing to our Building Fund — donations to which will be applied directly to the principal balance.
We invite you to make St. Michael’s a part of your family giving. Of course, we recognize that families may already be facing financial difficulties due to the pandemic — we want to assure you that you are in our prayers. While it goes without saying, we wish to emphasize that offerings of any amount are welcome.
