What you need to know from this weekend’s bulletin:
Love is the Reason for the Resurrection
March 31, 2024
“I asked God to take away my pride. God said ‘No’. It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up… I asked God to grant me patience. God said ‘No’. Patience is the byproduct of tribulations; it isn’t granted, it is earned. I asked God to give me happiness. God said ‘No’. I give blessings. Happiness is up to you. I asked God to spare me pain. God said ‘No’. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.
I asked God to make my spirit grow. God said ‘No’. You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful… I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me. God said… Ahhhh, finally you have the idea!”
The reality of the resurrection is based on love. Resurrection is giving up pride in the name of love. Resurrection is earning patience in the midst of tribulations. Resurrection is being happy by counting our blessings. Resurrection is going through suffering and pain to get closer to God.
Resurrection is growing up in the spirit. Resurrection gives us the legacy of love for one another. The reality of our own resurrection is rooted in our decision to love. Resurrection is the consequence of our decision to give up our life in the name of love.
Easter is Christ’s invitation for us to witness to His good news. Easter is the confirmation of the sacredness of our humanity.
Christ’s resurrection invites us to the miracle of a transformed life. It invites us to invite Christ to do in us what He has done to billions before us. It invites us to love again after we have failed. It invites us to trust again after being betrayed. It invites us to believe again after our faith has been shaken. For by His resurrection, Christ is alive in our midst, wanting to work miracles in our lives.
Healing Lines
“Lord Jesus Christ, You told the women of Jerusalem not to weep for You, but to weep for themselves. Be with women who suffer violence in their homes, as they weep for their sons caught up in the violence. Be with the women who live in domestic violence, who have learnt not to weep for their own pains, who have suffered so long they are numb. Strengthen your Church in its care and support of all who are in pain. Help us to be sensitive and caring for you are the Lord who suffers and serves.”
