God’s Overflowing Grace

January 19, 2025

In a way, this miracle of Christ, considered as the first, demonstrates that marriage and family play a paramount role in the mystery of our redemption.  Having chosen to be born from a marriage, Christ also chose to show publicly His power and glory for the first time on a wedding occasion.  It illustrates the need for us to fill our own proverbial jars for God to intervene in our own complicated lives and to heed the advice of the Mother of God to do whatever her Son tells us to do.  
 
In Scriptures, the wedding banquet is used as the image of God’s kingdom.  God’s people is often referred to as His bride.  Christ is presented as delighting in His bride, that is, we, the Church considered the bridegroom of the Church.  
 
The miracle story is a sign that with Christ’s coming into our world, a new and wonderful age has come, a time of great abundance and overflowing of blessings. The first reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah compares the renewal of God’s holy city and the blessings promised to God’s chosen people to a wedding feast. The imagery relates to the time of Christ’s coming into our world.  This miracle story is a powerful story of God’s grace and presence in our life.  With God’s sharing of our humanity through Jesus Christ, we share God’s divine life.  God offers us the gift of a share in His life, the gift we call Grace.
 
In our midst, we see God’s gifts and graces manifested through the generosity and love of our fellow believers who willingly share their time, talent, and treasure to build and strengthen our community.   The efforts of our volunteers who constitute the bulk of our workforce in this community are a testament of God’s overflowing grace and blessing for us.  As a community, we have to be more expressive of our gratitude for God’s graces and gifts by becoming more faithful stewards of our life and its bountiful resources.  
 
As we enter a Jubilee Year, let us resolve to be more conscientious of sharing the resources and the talents with which God has gifted us.  Let us be more gentle with the personal relationships we have with one another.

“Love is patient and kind… It does not rejoice at the wrong, but rejoices in the right.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). Family violence or abuse is the exact opposite to this. The abuser will say they cannot live without you but will verbally, physically, emotionally, financially, sexually, and spiritually abuse you to manipulate and control you. If the love in your life is like this, reach out for help.

Face-to-Face Youth Night

There will be a Youth Night for Grades 6-8 with Face-To-Face Ministries on Saturday, January 18 from 6:30-8:30pm. Pizza will be provided. This is a free event; no registration is needed.  Join us for fun, fellowship, and faith!

 

Back From Christmas Community Celebration

Santa may be on vacation, the bells may have stopped ringing, and the carolers may have stopped singing, but that doesn’t mean the celebrations must stop!  Join us on Friday, January 31 for our “Back From Christmas” community celebration featuring live music by the Ad Hoc Band. Doors open at 6:30pm with wine, cheese, and light appetizers offered, and music to follow.  Donations will be accepted to support St. Michael’s Building Fund. 33 Weeks to Eucharistic Glory

In view of our parish-wide consecration to Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, the Eucharistic Adoration Ministry will be selling the guide book “33 Days to Eucharistic Glory” for $5 in the Narthex after every weekend Mass starting January 18, 2025.  Of course, any additional contribution is greatly appreciated! The Consecration to Jesus in the Eucharist will begin February 1 and 2, 2025 with a reflection video at each of the weekend Masses.

 

2025 Contribution Envelopes

Next year’s 2025 contribution envelopes are available for pickup in the Narthex. Please look for your name alphabetically organized. If you have any questions, please call the parish office at 403-249-0423.

 

Pilgrimage to Rome 2025

An Information Night will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 7pm (after the 6pm Mass) at St Michael’s Room. Fr.
