In His Image and Likeness

The Book of Genesis mentions that we are created in God’s image and likeness. It somehow describes God’s oneness as well as God’s diversity in three persons as manifested in our human condition.
We believe that God’s oneness is also manifested in the uniqueness of each and every human person, with his or her own character with his or her own idiosyncrasies. DNA technology has reinforced this singular uniqueness of each human being which each and every one of us has. The uniqueness of every person stems from being created in God’s image and likeness. Our social nature as human beings is also rooted in God’s Trinitarian nature. Our sociability manifests God’s three-ness as persons. Our communitarian spirit belies our sharing of God’s plurality as persons. We tend to seek one another. The saying “No man is an island” captures this inherent human condition which stems from our being created in God’s image and likeness. In the mystery of salvation, we are redeemed not only as individual persons but as a people, as a community, as Church. The diversity of the gifts and talents of our respective persons are unified by the same one Spirit of God. The unity and diversity that is found in our communities is the manifestation of God’s oneness in three diverse persons, united by the principle of selfless love.
When Jesus came to our world, He taught us to see God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. One of the ways we get to know God as Father is through the world of creation and through God’s providential love for us. We know God as Son through the ministry of Jesus among us. We get to know God as Holy Spirit through the Spirit’s presence and work in us and in the Church. This is the celebration we mark today. We celebrate God whom we have come to learn through our faith as Father, as Son, and as Holy Spirit, three persons in one God.
Throughout the history of our salvation, God has gradually prepared us by word and action for the ultimate disclosure of Himself as Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In a very special way, the mystery of the Holy Trinity was revealed in the person, words, and works of Jesus Christ. He revealed His Father as His Father and “our” Father and Himself as God’s eternal and divine Son. He also made known a third divine person, the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, whom the Father and He, as risen Lord, would send to His Church. He calls His disciples to become God’s children through the gift of the Spirit which He bestows on them.
As we celebrate Holy Trinity Sunday, let us celebrate our uniqueness as individual persons and our unity as community which manifest the diversity of the three persons in one God. Let us celebrate our being created in God’s image and likeness.

Healing Lines
The first observance of Father’s Day is believed to have been held on July 5, 1908 in a Church in West Virginia. Sonora Dodd of Washington arranged a tribute for her father on June 19, 1910 after listening earlier to a Mother’s Day sermon. We wish a Blessed Father’s Day to all fathers and father figures, and encourage them to be part of the solution to end all forms of abuse and violence in our communities and the world.

Parish Renewal
Thank you to all parishioners who submitted feedback and comments to the draft of the Parish Renewal Plan. The Parish Renewal Team will consider all suggestions when completing the final draft of the document which is due at the Diocese by June 15. Thank you for your prayers and support as we continue our renewal journey!
Pastoral Council
Pastoral Council met for a final business meeting on Tuesday, May 20 before summer break. * Thank you to the dedicated men and women who have sat on council for the prescribed three-year term and who will be stepping down in June. Together in Action (TIA)
This year’s goal is $121,243 which is the same as the previous few years. Thanks to your generosity, we reached the target amount last year. All surplus funds this year will go to our Building Fund to help pay our loan.
