Word Of God Sunday

Whenever we as Christians gather for worship, we listen to a selection or selections from the Bible. Our biblical selections every Sunday and during the entire year are chosen on the basis of our celebrations are so arranged that we are able to listen and reflect on the different ranging topics covered by the Bible.
The Bible is aptly described as the word of God in words of human beings. We believe that whenever the word of God is proclaimed in our midst, something special happens. We believe that speaks to us through His word. God speaks to us not just about what happened long time ago, but about our own lives now. Our community helps us to understand what the word of God means for us today. When I preach, my preaching is not only for you but also for me, who have to struggle with my own struggling efforts to approximate what I believe with what I practice.
Because Christ’s revelation is inexhaustible, we can always know more about it and understand it better. What we are to believe is found in tradition and Scripture, which together from one sacred deposit of the word of God which is committed to the Church. The Bible has an essential and indispensable role to play in Christian catechesis… As St. Jerome says: “Ignorance of the scriptures is ignorance of Christ”. The Bible is presented as a collection of divinely inspired books, each with its human author or authors, history of composition, and literary form or forms. Such information helps us understand what meaning the sacred writers really intended and what God wanted to manifest by means of their words.
A literal interpretation may not be appropriate for many of the biblical selections. Exegesis denotes that the meaning of a biblical passages comes out of the passages themselves and not something that we put or assigned to the passages. We cannot try to justify or support our foregone conclusions with a selective gathering of biblical passages which seem to support our claims or agenda. That is in-gesis, not exegesis.
We let the word of God speak to us and to our own respective life experiences. We have to emphasize the importance of the community in discerning God’s message in our lives. Let us ask yourselves what role Sacred Scripture plays in our decisions and actions. Is there is symbolic place of honor for the Bible in our homes which can be a reminder of God’s presence in your home. Is Scripture reading part of any of our family gatherings?
Healing Lines
“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men..” (Matthew 4:19) As we are invited by Jesus to spread the Good News, so we are asked to look after those that we encounter in our daily lives. Those effected by bullying and abuse are especially in need of our help and love. Remember a time when you felt alone and helpless. Wouldn’t you have felt relieved to be given a kind word or some direction from those in your Church community? There may be someone sitting next to you right now who could use your reaching out to them.

A Season of Hope and Renewal
In the spirit of the Jubilee Year proclaimed by Pope Francis last year, our Diocese is launching a matching financial campaign for parishes called, Multiply the Hope. Once our parish has fulfilled all of its financial obligations for the year, every dollar contributed to reduce our parish loan will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to our parish goal. Even after the Jubilee year concludes on December 28, 2025 the Diocese has extended this campaign to the end of 2027, giving us additional time to reach our parish goal. Our goal for this matching program is $510,569. This means that every contribution toward this goal has twice the impact, allowing our parish to move forward with greater freedom in strengthening the renewal priorities. SSVP “Poor Box” Collection
There will be a “Poor Box” collection after all Masses on January 24 and January 25 by members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Funds will be used to serve those most in need in our community. Thank you for your support!
2026 Donation Envelopes
Next year’s 2026 donation envelopes are ready for pick up. They are arranged alphabetically on the table by the Mezzanine stairs until the end of January. After that, they will have to be picked up from the office. Please note: you may use envelopes only for the current year, all previous year’s envelopes must be discarded.
Saturday Night Lights
Youths in grades 7-12 are invited to an evening of music, food, friendships, and talks hosted by Access 52. Dates for the evenings are February 14, and April 25. This is a free event. Click here to register.
Potluck Sunday
Potluck Sundays for St. Michael Community will be on the first Sunday of each month at 6:00pm. The next Potluck Sunday will be on February 1. This is a free event. Please bring a main dish, bread, salad, pickles, vegetable tray, or dessert to share with others. Please bring your food ready to serve. Come celebrate our community!

Grief Share Program
Grief Share is a special weekly seminar and support group designed to help you rebuild your life after losing a loved one. Our group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and want to help you through the difficult times. This program consists of a video seminar (Christian based with personal stories from Christian experts who have experienced grief), group support discussions with facilitators, and a personal workbook. This is an 8-week program and will run from January 13 – March 3, 2026 on Tuesdays from 7:00-9:00pm in Rooms 143 and 144. Please note: the session on February 17 will be held in the St. Michael’s Room for this date only. Free will giving / $20 charge for the workbook. Vacation Bible Camp 2026:
“Rainforest Falls – Exploring the Nature of God”
Step through the mist into Rainforest Falls, overflowing with wild waterfalls, towering trees, and colorful creatures. Beneath a canopy of chattering birds and howling monkeys, kids plunge into a lifelong adventure of discovering the nature of God. Together we explore what it means to be rooted in relationship with God, Our Creator, a safe place in life’s storms.
