What you need to know from this weekend’s bulletin:
Covid-19 update – New
On Tuesday, November 24, the provincial government declared a state of public health emergency in Alberta. In light of this development, the Diocese of Calgary has mandated mask use for everyone who enters a church building — this includes wearing a mask throughout the entirety of Mass, even while seated and stationary in the sanctuary. Exceptions under the current municipal bylaw apply — however, those who wish to receive Holy Communion must wear a mask when lining up. Thank you for your cooperation.
Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe – New
In honour of the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we will be having an extra daily Mass on Saturday, December 12 at noon. All are invited to attend—please register ahead of time by clicking here.
Prepare yourself spiritually for Christmas — join Sr. Katrina Le and Sr. Gabrielle Cornelio of the Sisters of Divine Mercy on an Advent mission happening December 8-10 (Tues-Thurs). Each night will begin with Mass at 6:30 p.m. followed by a talk.
Waiting & Watching: an Advent experience for youth
Waiting & Watching is a special Advent experience we’re hosting for youth in grades 7-12 together with Access52, featuring music, prayer, and inspiring talks. This will be on Friday, December 11 at 7 p.m. in the main sanctuary. We’re inviting students in grades 7-12 to join us in-person or via livestream on our website. Click the button below to register.
Giving Tuesday marks a global movement dedicated to charitable giving. As we approach the end of 2020, we ask that you remember St. Michael’s in your year-end giving, especially during this time of pandemic. To donate, visit saintmichael.ca/giving.
Stocking Tree – New
Fill a pair of socks with essentials for daily living such as underwear, mitts, gloves, toques, Kleenex packets, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, bandages, shampoo, razors, shaving cream and, if you have room, candy bars. Hang the stockings onto the Stocking Tree in the sanctuary — these stockings will be delivered to the Drop-In Centre this Christmas. Thanks for your generosity!
Our Advent Penitential Service will be on Thursday, December 17, with several priests available to hear confessions beginning at 7 p.m. All are invited prepare for Christmas spiritually and encounter God’s mercy in the sacrament of Reconciliation. If you plan on coming, please pick a time slot and register ahead of time at saintmichael.ca/events.
This list will only be used to keep track of the number of people present in the church building and will be destroyed after two weeks. This does not give any of the confessors any information about the penitents.
Christmas Hampers Update – New
Our planning continues, and requests for assistance are coming in. In addition to serving current SSVP clients, we’ve already received 7 referrals from St. Michael’s School. These are families whose need was previously unknown to SSVP. This year, SSVP and a small group of former Hamper Committee volunteers will be assembling hampers.
How can you help? If you haven’t yet made your donation, there is still time. We need monetary donations for our food purchase, and all $35 Walmart or Superstore gift cards donated will be used for children’s gifts. These may be dropped off at the parish office, or placed in a green SSVP envelope and dropped in the lockbox in the SSVP donation bin the gathering area. You can also make donations online at saintmichael.ca/giving (tax receipts will be issued in Jan 2021).
