Healthy Relationships from a Christian Perspective: Do we have the courage to do it right?

In these presentations, Dr. Mark Kolodziej will be speaking about Christian relationship and dating ethics, providing parents, teachers, and young adults with the scientific evidence which supports and complements Scripture and Church teaching on the area of sexuality and healthy relationships. Save the Date: Parish Lenten Mission with Chris Bray – New

This February, join us for Radical Love: a parish Lenten mission with Catholic evangelist, speaker, and musician Chris Bray. Whether you’re a parishioner or not, we invite you to join us in this special, three-evening mission designed to remind us of God’s radical love, prepare us for Lent, and to encourage us in the work of evangelization and sharing this love with others. Knights of Columbus – New

The Grief Support Ministry invites individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one to GriefShare: a special weekly seminar and support group designed to help you rebuild your life during a time of grief. When: seven consecutive Mondays at 7 p.m. beginning January 20. This program consists of a video seminar, group support discussions, and a personal workbook. Christian Life Seminar

Missionary Families of Christ (formerly Couples for Christ – Foundation for Family and Life) is inviting married couples & single men and women ages 40+ to join the next Christian Life Seminar on January 24-25 here at St. Michael’s. This free event leads participants into a renewed understanding of God’s call to you as a Christian through teaching, small-group discussion, praise & worship, and fellowship. By hearing the message of the Gospel proclaimed anew, you can make a renewed commitment to God in a way that will allow you to receive a fuller experience of the work of the Holy Spirit in your life. How can we pray for you? – New

Prayer Ministry teams will be available at St. Mary’s Chapel (formerly Day Chapel) following all Masses next weekend for those who want to be prayed for.

Catholic Women’s League Fundraiser – New

  • Membership drive: Come see us in the gathering area after Mass next weekend, January 25-26, to learn about what we do and how you can be a part of it.
  • Stock up on seafood for Lent: this year’s Fish for Fundraiser begins next weekend and on February 1-2. See the CWL table in the gathering area after Mass to place your orders. (pick up will be on Wednesday, February 19 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.)

Last Year’s Palms – New

Since the palms from last year’s Palm Sunday Liturgy were blessed, they are now sacramentals which should be treated with respect and never be thrown away. If you would like to dispose of your palms, please bring them to the church and deposit them in the “old palms” container outside the Parish Office. Once collected, the palms will be burned to be used on Ash Wednesday.

In addition to our weekly coffee and fellowship (Fridays at 9:45 a.m.), here are some upcoming notable events: • January 24: got questions about breastfeeding, NFP, growth charts, child flu, etc.? Men’s Ministry: That Man is You! – New

This winter, the Men’s Ministry’s That Man is You program will be on Wednesdays at 6 a.m. beginning January 29 to April 22. Men are invited to The Fight of Faith, the latest in TMIY’s ongoing faith formation program which “equips and enables men to engage in the spiritual battle raging in our day.” To learn more, visit saintmichael.ca/mensministry or sign up by emailing tmiy@saintmichael.ca.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul: Most-Needed Items – New

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is sincerely grateful for the generosity of benefactors whose financial and non-perishable food donations over the past two months supported another successful Christmas Hamper program. A detailed report of this year’s program will be provided within the next month. Most-needed items this month include: liquid laundry soap (not powder), adult and youth toothbrushes, canned vegetables, and canned fish. Thank you for your continued support of the Society.

Grafted In: Monthly Talk Series with Don Swenson – New

Join Don Swenson in the monthly talk series Grafted In: Reflections on the Jewish Roots of the Christian-Catholic Tradition and the Relationship Between Gentile and Jewish Believers in Jesus. The first talk this winter (A Short History of the Relationship Between Christianity and Judaism from the 4th Century to Modern Times) will be on Wednesday, January 29 at 7 p.m.

Creative Arts Open Studio – New

The next open studio will be on Wednesday, January 29, at 9:45 a.m. in the St. Nicholas room, and will continue every second and fourth Wednesday of each month from February to May. We invite all artists and aspiring artists to this free drop-in program with mentorship available from artists in the parish.

A Blessing for Married Couples

Married couples are invited on Saturday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m. for an evening that will strengthen your marriage—we will have a liturgy at 7:30 p.m., followed by a testimony from one of our parishioners and a blessing by one of our priests. There will be a social to follow with live music and a cash bar. Tickets are only $20 per couple and can be purchased online. If you need further information, email marriageministry@saintmichael.ca.

St. Michael’s family ski trip – New

Love to ski or snowboard? You’re invited for a day of fun at the slopes! Come and join other families on Saturday, February 22, for a family ski trip at the Lake Louise Ski Resort. We will be providing bus transportation to and from Lake Louise, departing St. Michael’s at 7 a.m. and leaving Lake Louise by 4 p.m.

The cost (includes lift pass, bus transportation, and park pass) starts at $149 for adults, $113 for youth ages 13-17, $59 for children ages 6-12, and $122 for seniors 65+. Ski/snowboard rentals extra. To learn more and sign up, click here. Deadline to sign up is Wednesday, February 12.

Art Walk 2020: Callout for Artists – New

We invite artists and photographers to register to showcase their work at this spring’s Art Walk on the weekend of March 28-29. Deadline to register is Friday, February 28. For registration info and for submission requirements, please visit saintmichael.ca/event/artwalk.

Volunteers Needed

  • Kids Kingdom, our Liturgy of the Word ministry for children ages 3+, is in need of adult volunteer teachers who will help run the ministry during all of our weekend Masses. No prior teaching experience needed — training and lesson materials are provided. If interested, please contact Alison at astraface@saintmichael.ca or by calling 403-249-0423 ext. 125.
  • We’re looking for a leader for our Welcome Desk: a vital source of information for parishioners and guests after Mass every weekend. As leader, responsibilities include assisting new parishioners with connect cards, scheduling other volunteers, answering general inquiries regarding the parish, among a few others. This is an important role that helps create a friendly and welcoming experience for everyone in the church, especially for our guests.
