What you need to know from this weekend’s bulletin:

 

Pillar #2: Church as Encounter and Witness

September 15, 2024

The phrase “joyful encounter” suggests an experience filled with delight, pleasure, happiness, and yes, joy. It describes bumping into an old teammate, reuniting with a loved one, or perhaps meeting someone for the first time. Whether the encounter is serendipitous or planned, a joyful encounter is an experience that leaves a lasting impression upon us. We enjoy the encounter, putting a smile on our face and warming our heart. 
 
In the gospel narratives, we have countless stories of persons having a joyful encounter with Jesus. The story of the “Samaritan Woman at the Well” (John 4:4-42), for example, describes this joyful encounter. She arrives at the well at the hottest part of the day while the other women of the town would go in the morning to avoid the hot sun. She goes at that time because she is not well liked and is seen as living a scandalous life. Jesus is aware of her brokenness, does not shun or shame her, but invites her into a relationship with Him and offers her “living water”. She leaves the well filled with joy to announce her encounter with Jesus to anyone in town who will listen. Because of her encounter and witness, Jesus stays several days in that town to share with them the Good News of the Kingdom. 
 
This story paints a picture of what parish renewal Pillar #2 is getting at…becoming a “Church of Encounter and Witness”. When someone encounters God, he or she discovers a “whispering voice, an invisible hand” that wants to inspire and guide the person on a path toward healing, growth, and wholeness. This is a joyful encounter. One realizes that he/she is called, that he/she matters, and that he/she belongs. This joy touches every aspect of everyday life. It bears witness to the wonderful things God desires to do in each and every human life. 
 
To be “a Church of encounter and witness” is about encouraging one another to develop a deep and personal relationship with God. From the mentoring and guidance provided in the parish, acts of compassion, love, and service flow. By focusing on these and similar aspects of the Christian way of life, our parish becomes a beacon of hope and a living testimony of God’s power to transform lives. Thus, this pillar helps to create a vibrant, faith community that not only nurtures its members, but also reaches out to the wider world. As an African proverb says: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.
 
Finally, this focus on the three pillars will culminate in a parish gathering to be held Sunday, September 29th directly after the 11:00 am Mass. It will begin with a sit-down lunch followed by a short conversation to help us all get on board with the launch of our parish renewal. So, please save Sunday, September 29th in your calendar so that you can participate in our first ever “Parish Renewal Gathering”.

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” God is available to forgive all our transgressions and heal us. If we have been the aggressive one in our families we can seek out the resources available in our community and God’s help will support us in our journey. Take responsibility and be the model for your children and others around you. If we and our children have been harmed by interpersonal violence, our responsibility is to our and their safety, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Seek help.

Weekday Daily Mass | Day Chapel | South Door Entrance

Daily Mass will be held in the Day Chapel on weekdays: Tuesdays at 6pm, and Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 9am.  Please use the South entrance doors to attend.

 

Prayer Book | Friday Daily Mass Intentions | Beginning September 20, 2024

Personal prayer intentions may be written in the Prayer Book that is located outside the Day Chapel. The prayer book will be replacing the Prayer Basket that was previously used.

 

Sacraments

Registration for all children’s Sacraments are now open!  If you would like more information, or would like to register your children for Baptism, First Reconciliation/ First Communion, Confirmation, or Sacraments for Teens, please visit the Sacrament section of our website.

 

Parish Renewal

Over the next three weeks and at the Parish Renewal Gathering, we will explore the three Pastoral Priorities (Pillars) that will support and focus our efforts on our renewal journey.  These three pillars are: #1: Being missionary disciples in Christ, #2: Being a Church of encounter and witness, and #3: Strengthening family life. Members of the team will be available in the Narthex after all Masses.  Please stop by, grab a postcard, and share your reflections on each of the pillars.
