Pillar #3: Strengthen Family Life

September 22, 2024

Our family life is crucial to our health and wellness. It affects our level of happiness and joy, our sense of safety in the world, our ability to create healthy strong relationships, and is the seedbed for developing love and forgiveness, trust and cooperation, empathy and compassion. Family life is a fundamental focus of our parish renewal process.

The parish is the most dynamic center of Catholic life in the Church. It is here we gather around the Table of God’s Word and the Table of the Eucharist, to be nourished and renewed, so we may continue our pilgrimage. In our gatherings are persons born from all over the world, families from various cultural backgrounds and persons from various stages of life. The sacred dignity and worth of each individual is celebrated here. It is here we remind ourselves that each one of us is called, each one of us matters, and each one of us belongs.

Together we are all family. This third component of our renewal process, with its focus on strengthening family life, helps us to become intentional around how our Catholic Christian values can be infused and permeate every aspect of our parish and family life.

In the weeks and months ahead, join us as we together explore how families can be better supported in times of need and bereavement and educated through sacramental preparation and Scripture study. Consider getting involved as we formulate opportunities for our youth, reach out to the marginalized and the overlooked and help us discern how we as a parish will respond to the Spirit’s inspiration and guidance. Seek to foster a culture of openness, listening and dialogue. Every parish member is invited to speak with courage and honesty so we, as a parish, can learn how to accompany one another and experience ourselves as companions on the journey.

Healing Lines

The goals of overcoming violence and building a culture of peace imply spiritual, theological and practical challenges for our churches, which touch us in the centre of what it means to be church. The respect for human dignity, the concern for the well-being of the neighbor and the active promotion of the common good are imperatives of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Men and women are created equally in the image of God and justified by grace. Therefore, Human Rights are basic elements of preventing violence at all levels, individual, inter-personal, and collective, especially violence against women and children.

Parish Renewal

Over the last few weeks and at the Parish Renewal Gathering, we will explore the three Pastoral Priorities (Pillars) that will support and focus our efforts on our renewal journey.  These three pillars are: #1: Being missionary disciples in Christ, #2: Being a Church of encounter and witness, and #3: Strengthening family life.  Members of the team will be available in the Narthex after all Masses.  Please stop by, grab a postcard, and share your reflections on each of the pillars.  You can drop your postcard in the box at our table or bring it to the gathering on September 29.
