Society of St. Vincent de Paul: Share Sunday – NEW

The SSVP will be handing out grocery bags after all Masses this weekend for Thanksgiving Share Sunday. There’s a need to stock our shelves for distribution to those in need over the next several months. Please return your donation over the subsequent weekends. Thanks for your generosity.


SACRAMENTS UPDATE

  • Volunteer leaders needed for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist: We need volunteer teachers for our brand-new sacrament program this Fall and next Spring. Training is provided! The sessions will all be on either Saturday mornings OR afternoons (once a month) and you can help with one or all of them. The dates are: October 27, November 25, December 15, January 19, February 23, March 16, April 13, May 4, and May 11. If you can help support the sacrament journey of over 200 little ones, contact Maureen at mross@saintmichael.ca or at 403-249-0423 ext. 126.
  • Confirmation 2019 – NEW: Confirmation 2019 preparation for students in grades 6 and up begins this November. Full details and online registration are now available at saintmichael.ca/confirmation. Deadline to register is Monday, November 12.

Blessing of Pets

In honour of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4, we’re inviting everyone to a blessing of pets next Saturday, October 6, at 10 a.m. which will be happening outside the main doors. Please have your pets leashed to ensure their safety.


Rosary Coast-to-Coast

St. Michael’s will be participating in the nationwide coast-to-coast prayer event next Sunday, October 7, to pray for our country. Everyone is invited to bring their rosaries and join. For more info, visit rosarycoasttocoast.ca.


New October Dates: 2019 Photo Directory – NEW

If you wanted to have your photograph taken this October, we have new photo sitting dates on Friday, October 12 (2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) and Saturday, October 13 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Book your free photo appointment here.


DIOCESAN BEREAVEMENT EDUCATION PROGRAM

St. Michael’s will be hosting the Diocese of Calgary’s Bereavement Care Education Program this October. This certificate is a necessary component to be a part of the Parish Bereavement Team. Please note that the $50 course fee is waived for St. Michael’s parishioners. This is a two-part program happening on October 12-13 and 19-20. For more info, visit saintmichael.ca/pastoralcare.


Our Lady of Fatima: Mass and Rosary Procession

October is a special month of devotion to our Blessed Mother. On Saturday, October 13, we invite everyone to join us for Mass and a rosary procession at 10 a.m. to commemorate the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. Refreshments to follow.


Reception to Welcome New Parishioners – NEW

Are you a registered parishioner? If you regularly attend St. Michael’s, we strongly encourage you to register as a member of our parish community by clicking here. Potluck Sunday – NEW

We’re inviting you, your family, and a friend to an evening of food and fellowship on Sunday, October 14, after the 5 p.m. Mass. Please bring a hot or cold food item ready to serve.


Bishop’s Dinner 2018 featuring Tony Melendez – NEW

This year’s Bishop’s Dinner will be for the benefit of Catholic education in our diocese, supporting students of the five Catholic school districts in southern Alberta. Providing music for the evening is singer-songwriter Tony Melendez and the Bishop Grandin Marching Band. The event will be held at the Telus Convention Centre on Friday, October 19. Save the Date: Christmas Hamper Day 2018 – NEW

Mark your calendars! This year, our parish will assemble and deliver Christmas hampers on Monday, December 17. Volunteer sign up will happen later in the fall. Interested in being part of the organizing committee? Contact Colleen at jcfitzpat@shaw.ca.


Donated Eyeglasses: Thank You

Thank you for your donation of over 800 pairs of used eyeglasses and assorted hearing aids, which have been cleaned, packaged, and distributed to numerous worldwide locations for vision-impaired individuals who can’t afford to pay for eyeglasses. Thank you for your generosity.


ST. MICHAEL’S PICTURES: TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

Time is running out! The deadline to submit your photos for our 60th-anniversary highlight is coming up next month. Any pictures of parish life, sacraments, etc. from St. Michael’s past are welcome. For instructions on how to submit digital or print photos, visit saintmichael.ca/diamond.


English Language Learning (ELL) – NEW

Those in our parish community who would like to join the weekly ELL classes are welcome to come to our sessions, which start at 9;30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday mornings. Beginners are encouraged to come at 9:30 a.m., while intermediate-level learners are asked to come at 10:30 a.m.
