A message from Maureen, our Sacrament Coordinator

When the staff of St. Michael’s and the Diocese of Calgary were laid off last May, my prayer life grew much stronger as I asked God where He wanted me to be. By September, I decided to re-apply back to teaching with the Calgary Catholic School Board. I was hired as a guest teacher the same week as St. Michael’s called me back to be our part time Sacrament Coordinator. (God has a funny sense of humour with how He answers prayers!) I have been doing both jobs for three months now and have decided to teach on a more regular basis. It was a tough decision to make after 12 years at St. Michael’s, but I’ve decided to leave the role of Sacrament Coordinator. I know that this role will be filled by someone who has been
praying for a wonderful job that is filled with much joy, faith and community spirit. We have an amazing parish with families who will always be near and dear to
my heart. Please pray for our next Sacrament Coordinator who will have the greatest blessing to work with all of you in the days and years to come. I will be around
until at least the end of January and am still here to answer your sacrament questions and guide you through the first part of your programs.

CWL Online Contest for Kids

The Catholic Women’s League is sponsoring an online contest for students in grades 4-6 and 7-12. Categories are: poster or art piece you have created and poem or short story you have written. The contest theme is “what God’s love means to me”. Please submit your entry by emailing your poem/story or a photo of your creation to smcwlpresident@gmail.com. Winners will be published in the March newsletter and prizes will be awarded. Deadline for submission is February 2021. Entries will be judged by another CWL council.

Save the Date: Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is on Feb. 17, 2021, marking the beginning of Lent. We will be celebrating Mass at 9 a.m., 12 noon, and 7 p.m. Sign up will open in the coming weeks at saintmichael.ca/mass.

A note about congregational singing

Please be reminded that according to the latest diocesan directives, congregational singing is not allowed. This is in accordance with the Alberta government’s guidance for places of worship. Instead, please align your prayers with the words sung by the cantor. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in this matter. Thank you!

Serve with us: volunteer opportunities

Are you interested in technical, audio-visual work? We’re looking for individuals who can help run the sound mixer, Pro-Presenter slides, and cameras during our weekday and weekend Masses. 1 on 1 training will be provided. If you’re interested, please sign up at saintmichael.ca/volunteer.
