Bulletin: 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
What you need to know from this weekend’s bulletin:
All About Love
October 25, 2026
“Deus Caritas Est” (God is love). This is the title of the first encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI where he points out that love in its most radical form is Christ on the cross, “the culmination of that turning of God against Himself in which He give Himself in order to raise man up and save him.” He re-affirms, “the primacy of charity in the life of the Christian and the Church.” According to the Holy Father, “the whole history of the Church is a history of holiness, animated by one Love that has its source in God.”
In a pastoral message, he explains… We have to open our hearts to the merciful love of Christ and to the love of our brothers and sisters. “Whoever begins to see God, to contemplate the face of Christ, sees his brother with other eyes, discovers his brother, his good, his evil, his needs… We have to let the Word of God penetrate our life, realizing the fundamental truth of who we are, where we come from, where we must go, what path we must take in life.”
“Let us love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:15) The real meaning of the Gospel is that God first loved us and Jesus loved us to the end (Jn 13:1). Thanks to the gift of the Spirit, God’s love is offered to us, enabling us to become sharers in His own capacity to love. Precisely because it is a gift from God, charity becomes a commandment for everyone (Jn 13:34).”
As we continue our efforts of renewal, let us reflect on the love and presence of God in our lives. Let us be more and more motivated by the love of God that has been generously showered on us by His Son who gave up His life for our salvation.
As we continue our journey of faith, let us travel into our own inner desert to seek God’s love in our hearts. Let us pray for the courage to lovingly go through our own experiences of suffering and death so we meaningfully celebrate the joy of sharing Christ’s victory over sin and darkness.
The Book of Remembrance is now available for parishioners to write the names of their loved ones who have passed away. All Masses on the November 1 (9am, 11am & 5pm), including the October 31, 5pm Mass, will be offered for All Souls in Purgatory. A special Mass for All Souls’ Day on Monday, November 1, will be celebrated at 12noon. May our Beloved Dead rest in peace. Amen.
Fr. Edmund, fredmund@saintmichael.ca
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” How can we show to all our neighbors how we respect them as we are asked to by God? We all have rights in the eyes of the Lord, and all forms of abuse dishonor those rights.
Announcements:
Please see this weekend’s bulletins for all announcements:
Office
The office will be closed on:
Wednesday, November 11 for Remembrance Day.
Healing Mass
A Healing Mass will be held on Friday, October 30 at 7:00pm in the Day Chapel. There will be the blessing of water and olive oil, anointing and laying on of hands, as well as prayers for intentions. This Healing Mass is a way for our community to come together in Christ for healing, comfort, and strength. If pastorally required, this can be celebrated every last Friday of the month. Everyone is welcome.
All Saints’ Day Family Gathering
Join us this Sunday, November 1, as we open the St. Nicholas Room for families to gather, connect, and celebrate All Saints’ Day! Families are invited to choose a Saint of the Year to inspire them throughout the coming year, while children enjoy time to play and families build community. Parents and guardians must supervise their children at all times and remain responsible for their safety and behavior. We look forward to celebrating this special feast day together!
All Souls Day
There will be an All Souls Day Mass on Monday, November 1 at 12:00pm noon in the Day Chapel.
Remembering our beloved dead
The Book of Remembrance will be available starting this weekend until the end of November. This coming October 31-November 1 weekend, we will pray together as a community for our beloved dead. We also pray for the souls of those whose remains are placed in our columbarium. All weekend Masses for October 31-November 1, will be for the Departed Souls in Purgatory. A special Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 2, in the Day Chapel, at 12pm.
Alpha
Good news, St. Michael’s Alpha is coming soon! Alpha is an 11 week course that explores life and faith through a weekly meal, engaging talk, and small group discussion. The Alpha course will start Monday, January 4th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. Currently, we are seeking volunteers for many roles. If you signed up during the Stewardship Weekends, we will be contacting you shortly. However, if you did not have an opportunity to register, there is still time. Please email Cathy Sandau at cesandau@gmail.com. Volunteer opportunities include set up and take down, greeters, a group host or a group helper, and meal prep. If you have not experienced Alpha, registration for participants will take place in November. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Pictorial Directory Update
The Pictorial Directory is well underway! Following the photo sessions in May, the editorial materials were collected, formatted, and submitted to IPC Canada. We received the first draft in September, and it has now been proofread and returned. We expect the next draft in about four weeks, with completed directories anticipated by the end of the year or early 2027. A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who have helped with the design and proofreading—and thank you all for your patience as we await the finished product!
World Youth Day
World Youth Day 2027, taking place in South Korea from August 3–8, 2027, is a unique opportunity for young adults to deepen their faith, encounter Christ alongside pilgrims from around the world, and grow in community with fellow Catholics. This pilgrimage is more than a trip, it is an invitation to answer God’s call, strengthen your relationship with Him, and bring that renewed faith back to your parish and community. If you are aged 18-35 and are interested in learning more or applying, please contact Gabrielle Puhl at gabriellepuhl@gmail.com or click here to sign up.
