PRO-LIFE EVENTS IN MAY
- Join Bishop McGrattan at the Mass for Life on Monday, May 6, at 7 p.m., happening at St. Mary’s Cathedral. There will be Eucharistic Adoration before Mass beginning at 5:30 p.m.
- The Alberta March for Life will be on Thursday, May 9, at the Alberta Legislature in Edmonton, beginning at noon until 2 p.m. Free bus transportation (leaving at 8 a.m. and back around 6:30 p.m.) is being offered by the Knights of Columbus. - The 39th annual Hike for Life will be on Saturday, May 11, at Prince’s Island Park. By participating, you are helping the Calgary Pro-Life Association bring the Respect for Life programs to schools and other groups. Visit www.calgaryprolife.com to learn more.
UNITE Youth Celebration
In the past year, UNITE Youth has accomplished many things because of the support of all parishioners and schools in our community. As a sign of our gratitude, everyone is invited to a celebration on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m., which will feature our youth programming, future plans, and have an opportunity to say goodbye to our current team of NET missionaries. 24-Hour Eucharistic Adoration
24-hour Eucharistic Adoration will be on Friday, May 10, beginning right after the 9 a.m. Mass. Sign up for a slot outside the Adoration Chapel or online.
Save the Date: St. Michael’s Town Hall – New
The annual general meeting originally scheduled on May 9 has now been moved to Thursday, June 6, as a town hall event. Parishioners are invited to come and hear from Fr. John in-depth information about developments since our last open house in January, a review of 2018 pastoral and financial statistics, and to meet the new Parish Leadership Council members.
Creative Arts: Open Studio
The Creative Arts Ministry’s next open studio sessions will be on Wednesdays May 8, 15, and 22, from 9:45 a.m. to noon. We invite all artists and aspiring artists to come and explore making art through videos and practice. Please bring your own supplies in any medium. Those who wish to attend can register by emailing artwalk@saintmichael.ca.
Mother’s Day Roses
For Mother’s Day, the Knights of Columbus will be selling roses after Masses on the weekend of May 11-12 for $5 each. Buy mom a rose and support the Calgary Pro-Life Association’s Respect for Life educational programs.
Marriage Ministry: Date Night
For married, engaged, and seriously-dating couples: you are all invited on Saturday, May 11, for Revive to Thrive with Dr. Mark Kolodziej. Social to follow. This is a free event hosted by St. Michael’s Marriage Ministry, but we ask you to please register here.
Music CD Sale: Before the Sight of Angels – New
Before the Sight of Angels is the latest album from Demetrio Navarro, music leader of the Sunday 5 p.m. music ministry, The Inspirition Band. Demetrio will be at the gathering area after Masses on Sunday, May 5, as well as the May 11-12 weekend, selling CDs and signing autographs.
Oremus
Come and join Oremus in praying the Vespers — the evening prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours — for the needs of our parish community, happening on Monday, May 13 at 6 p.m. If you’d like to join but cannot make it to church, please email Heather at heathermontschilling@gmail.com.
Habitat for Humanity Build Days
In commemoration of our 60th anniversary, St. Michael’s has committed to participating in Habitat for Humanity’s Interfaith build days in May and June. All are encouraged to support this project and address the need for affordable homeownership by helping us raise funds. As of this week, we’ve raised $4,315 out of the $10,000 we need. Cake Sale in Support of Habitat for Humanity – New
In support of our 60th anniversary Habitat for Humanity project, there will be a cake sale after the Saturday 5 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. & 11 a.m. Masses on the weekend of May 25-26. UNITE Youth Retreat – New
St. Michael’s youth retreat is on Sunday, May 19, from noon to 8 p.m. The retreat is open to anyone in grades 7-12 and will include music, food, talks, Mass, and an all-around good time. Limited space is available. Also, this will be the very last youth event with our current team of NET missionaries. To sign up, email Nolan at youth@saintmichael.ca. Cost: suggested $5 donation to help with food costs.
Blood Drive – New
The Canadian Blood Services is looking for donors for the upcoming blood drive on Monday, May 27, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. here at St. Michael’s. To book your appointment, visit www.blood.ca.
Calling New Sacrament Preparation Volunteers for September!
Are you retired or on leave from teaching and want to give back to the Church with your teaching gifts? Are you a university student looking for practical hours with children? Are you someone who loves children and sharing your faith with them? We are looking for Sacrament Preparation teachers for next school year (2019-2020). We meet one Saturday a month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with a small group of school-aged children from October to May (8 sessions), learning about Reconciliation and Eucharist. Training will be provided and team teaching is the norm! For further information, contact Maureen at mross@saintmichael.ca.
Taste of the World
Taste the flavours of the different countries represented at St. Michael’s during this year’s Taste of the World, happening on Saturday, June 5 after the 5 p.m. Mass. Food tickets will be sold for $1 each. For those who wish to sell food: sign up will be available at the gathering are beginning April 27-28 (please supply your own flag). There will be a meeting with all vendors on Sunday, May 5, after the 11 a.m. Mass. For any further questions, email Vince at vincehuggins@telus.net.
VACATION BIBLE Camp
We are now taking in registrations for children ages 5-10 for this summer’s VBS. The camp runs Mon-Fri from 9 a.m. to noon, with the first week on July 8-12 and the second week on July 15-19. Registration is $65: please register your child at the parish office (Mon-Thurs from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and until 4 p.m. on Fridays). We are also in need of teen crew members and adult volunteers to help run our stations. To volunteer, please email Alison at astraface@saintmichael.ca.
