Christ’s legacy of peace

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives…”
“Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles: I leave you peace, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom…” This is the prayer for peace and unity we invoke before partaking of Christ’s body and blood at every Eucharistic celebration. And at the end of the celebration, we are dismissed with the parting words: “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord…”
The Eucharist, as the center and source of all Christian life, gives us the gift of shalom, Christ’s own peace, and His other gifts. Through baptism, partaking in the Eucharist, receiving forgiveness through reconciliation and the sealing of our lives with the Holy Spirit in confirmation, we as Church pass on the same gifts that Jesus left to his followers. As these gifts connect us to God, these also draw us together as the body of Christ, calling us out into the world.
Because we are a people gifted with Christ’s peace and love, we are called to action: to share the divine life that Christ has won for us through His death and resurrection. Because we are a people chosen and anointed by Christ, we are called “to proclaim the Good News to the poor, bring freedom to captives, and announce the time of God’s favor…” We are as a priestly, prophetic, and kingly people, mandated to continue Christ’s ministry of unity and healing.
God has given Himself in Jesus Christ so that we may see Him with the eyes of faith. In our respective lives, we are called to be authentic reflections of God’s presence within ourselves, giving us the courage to bring Christ’s peace and love to a world of hatred and indifference.

Jesus is clear in his messages about how we should treat others. Let us also emulate this message of peace especially as we help those around us who are in need of support as they struggle with violence, abuse and discrimination in their lives.
We have a Pope! American born Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the 267th Roman Pontiff, taking the name Pope Leo XIV. Please join us in praying for our new Holy Father. Viva il Papa!!

St. Michael’s Mass of Thanksgiving for Pope Leo XIV
There will be a Mass for Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday, May 28 at 6:00pm at St. Michael Catholic Community in the Sanctuary. All are welcome as we unite in prayer and thanksgiving for our Holy Father.

Potluck Sunday
The next Potluck Sunday for St. Michael Community will be on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 6:00pm. This is a free event. Please bring a main dish, bread, salad, pickles, vegetable tray, or dessert ready to serve. This will be the last one until fall.
40 Hours for Vocations
In collaboration with the Diocese of Calgary, St. Michael’s will be hosting 40 continuous hours of Eucharistic Adoration for vocations from Friday, June 6 at 3:00pm until Sunday, June 8 at 8:00am (note: there will be no Adoration during the 5:00pm Saturday Mass). Vocations Rally
The entire Diocese of Calgary is invited to join us for our second annual Vocations Rally here at St. Michael’s on Pentecost Sunday, June 8 from 11:00am-4:30pm. The Vocations Rally begins with the 11:00am Mass celebrated by Bishop McGrattan, followed by lunch, speakers, a panel, and much more! Admission and lunch are free, but registration is required. Pastoral Council
Pastoral Council met for a final business meeting on Tuesday, May 20 before summer break. * Thank you to the dedicated men and women who have sat on council for the prescribed three-year term and who will be stepping down in June. Together in Action (TIA)
Launched this Season of Lent, is the Diocese of Calgary’s annual campaign to support key ministries, partner organizations, and agencies. As Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee Year, we give as we “rejoice in hope, patient in suffering, persevering in prayer.” (Romans 12:12) The 2025 Together in Action campaign seeks to raise funds for essential initiatives, including care for retired priests, hospital chaplaincy, pastoral care, diocesan ministries, and the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund. This year’s goal is $121,243 which is the same as the previous few years. Thanks to your generosity, we reached the target amount last year. All surplus funds this year will go to our Building Fund to help pay our loan.
