A Blessed Family Weekend!

February 16, 2025

As we celebrate Family Day weekend, we reflect on the role of marriage and family in our life.   
 
Why do marriage and family matter to you and me? How do marriage and family affect you? As the fifth child in a family of seven, I am very fortunate to have a loving father and mother who have both sacrificed their entire lives for the welfare of their children. As a priest, I attribute my priestly vocation to the loving union of my mother and father. Indeed, their relationship has given me a glimpse of God’s love and presence in my life.  
 
In a very real way, family is rooted in marriage which is the relationship that brings about children who usually have to depend on the unique care and concern of a father and a mother. Marriage has benefits which cannot be duplicated by any other relationship. Marriage affects our social and public life, especially in terms of procreation and the care and education of children.
 
Marriage matters because God has ordained it to be an essential element of our faith journey. Our faith, guaranteed by our freedom of religion, supports marriage as a sacrament, that is, an expression of God’s love for all of us.  
 
There have been recent changes concerning the definition of marriage that are not consistent with our Christian practice. And we have been in the recent past too complacent in the defending and promoting the importance and the sacredness of the institution of marriage. Many of us know so little about our Catholic understanding of marriage and family, the Church’s teaching on sexuality and contraception, the importance of political engagement or our being “salt and light for the world”.  
 
The celebration of Family Day weekend during this month of February presents itself as an opportunity to express our appreciation of the gift of marriage and family. Let us celebrate marriage and the family as a gift that God has given us for our peace and happiness.

Healing Lines
 
“Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh..” (Luke 6:21) Jesus’ words can be such a comfort for those who are abused, especially when hope has returned when they receive the assistance they need. We can be of great help to these individuals, couples, and families by creating a safe place in our parish and supporting them in their healing.

2024 Tax Receipts

The 2024 tax receipts will be available for pick up from February 7 until February 16, 2025. They will be arranged alphabetically on a table in front of the main washrooms. After that date, the remaining tax receipts will be mailed.

 

2025 Contribution Envelopes

If you haven’t picked up next year’s 2025 contribution envelopes they are available for pickup in the office.

 

Art Walk 2025

We invite artists and photographers from beginners to professionals to register to showcase their works at the upcoming Art Walk 2025 on March 8 & 9, 2025. The cut off date to register is February 23, 2025. For more information, go on line to www.saintmichael.ca/events or pick up a form in the Narthex after Mass.  

 

Lenten Healing Retreat

March 25 and March 26 – 7:00pm-8:45pm: Holy Mass / Talk / Adoration

March 27 – 7:00pm-10:00pm: Healing Mass / Adoration / Healing Service

This retreat brings life’s struggles to the source of all healing through Jesus to be transformed by His grace. “I Thirst” (John 19:28) is a Lenten Healing Retreat presented by Shalom Media Ministry in association with St. Michael Catholic Community. The retreat offers a unique opportunity for the faithful, thirsting for divine intimacy, to gather and seek healing of mind, body, and soul, led by Fr. Roy Palatty, a gifted priest and world-renowned speaker. Fr. Palatty will lead you in Holy Mass, a spiritual talk, silent reflection in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, and special prayers.
