Dawn After Darkness

Christ’s resurrection is reckoned as happening on early Sunday morning. The narrative of the Easter event emphasizes dawning: dispelling the darkness, clearing up a sad misunderstanding with a joyous realization. A dawning after darkness: a new day, a new week, a new era, a new life.
Being raised to life in Christ, our thoughts and aspirations are meant to express this new life. The direction of Christian life is an onward and upward course. Retrogression or stagnation is not compatible with this new life. “If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above… set your minds on things that are above…” (Col 3:1-4)
Easter is living life on a higher level. It is constantly lifting our minds to the mind of our Savior, giving us a power that sublimates the weaknesses of our human nature. It is a capacity to see beyond the boredom and the routine of our ordinary lives.
Easter is a personal movement towards a living experience of Christ’s resurrection. It is embracing our crosses as glorious crosses. It is granting forgiveness to those who are difficult or almost impossible to forgive. It is loving our loved ones during moments of being unlovable. It is not regretting the past, but growing and living for the future and the present.
It is the power of Christ’s resurrection which gives us the divine capacity to forgive, to look beyond the petty idiosyncrasies of our flawed relationships, to see the face of the Risen Christ in His unlovable likeness in the human flesh.
It is experiencing the joy of unselfishly giving oneself to a project or cause. It is deciding to do something that has to be done, even when we do not feel like doing it. It is willingly surrendering our power to decide to do God’s will in our lives. Easter is joyfully facing our problems and difficulties with the faith that the Lord does not give us problems and difficulties which we cannot bear.

Healing Lines
Lord Jesus Christ, You told the women of Jerusalem not to weep for You but to weep for themselves. Be with women who suffer violence in their homes, as they weep for their children caught up in the violence. Be with the women who live in domestic violence, who have learnt not to weep for their own pains, who have suffered so long they are numb. Strengthen your Church in Her care and support all who are in pain. Help us to be sensitive and caring for You, our Lord, who suffers and serves.

Good Friday Collection
The annual Good Friday Collection is the only yearly request asked by the Holy See of dioceses and parishioners throughout the world. The collection helps the Church of the Holy Land to maintain Christian sites, so important for Christians everywhere, and to provide pastoral, educational, and social works among the small Christian population. If you are unable to attend the service, it is possible to contribute online by going to www.commissariat.ca and donating via CanadaHelps or Interac e-transfer. Receipts will be issued.

At the right side of the Sanctuary Entrance, you can now simply tap your bank card or device to give your desired contribution for the Church’s maintenance and programs. The Tap and give device prompts you to provide a mobile number for a text receipt and/or a QR code. If you require a tax receipt at year’s end, we need copies of your receipts and the last four (4) digits of the card(s) used. As a standard practice, tap machines do not access any personal information, except the last four (4) digits of the bank card.

45th Annual Hike For Life
Please join Fr. Edmund and Fr. Kelvin in support of the Calgary Pro-Life Association’s 10K Hike For Life at Prince’s Island Park on Saturday, May 8, 2025. You can join the St. Michael’s team, start collecting pledges and hike on your own, or you can make a donation to St. Michael’s Catholic Community (on behalf of Fr. Edmund and Fr. Kelvin) or any other team member from now until June 30th. All donations go directly to Pro-Life to support the Respect For Life programs. St. Michael’s CWL will be collecting pledges on behalf of Fr. Edmund and Fr. Kelvin in the narthex after all Masses on May 3 and 4 or you can donate online at https://www.canadahelps.org/s/6WyRKA

Divine Mercy Sunday
Please join us for a Divine Mercy Celebration on Sunday, April 27. It will begin with Reconciliation from 1:15-2:00pm, followed by a Service and Holy Hour from 2:00-3:00pm, with a reception to follow. Chaplet of Divine Mercy; Divine mercy praises; Homily; Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament; Adoration/Meditation; and Benediction. Please note that incense will be used during the celebration. All are welcome!
Together in Action (TIA)
Launched this Season of Lent, is the Diocese of Calgary’s annual campaign to support key ministries, partner organizations, and agencies. As Pilgrims of Hope in this Jubilee Year, we give as we “rejoice in hope, patient in suffering, persevering in prayer.” (Romans 12:12) The 2025 Together in Action campaign seeks to raise funds for essential initiatives, including care for retired priests, hospital chaplaincy, pastoral care, diocesan ministries, and the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund. This year’s goal is $121,243 which is the same as the previous few years. Thanks to your generosity, we reached the target amount last year. All surplus funds this year will go to our Building Fund to help pay our loan.
