Divine Mercy Sunday

April 16, 2023

This Sunday we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, an hour of God’s mercy with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and the praying of the Divine Mercy chaplet, from 2-3pm in the main sanctuary. Confessions will be available from 1-2 pm.

The re-dedication of the renovated St. Mary’s Chapel and the Blessing of the image of the Divine Mercy follows. A reception afterwards will be held in the gathering area.

Please observe signage reminding us that absolute silence is to be observed in the corridor between St. Mary’s Chapel and the Blessed Sacrament Chapel where in both places parishioners and visitors pray and meditate. There will be no talking or stopping along the corridor.

The renovation of St. Mary’s Chapel is where we will celebrate our weekday Masses, smaller weddings, funerals, and other liturgical celebrations. This will also be the sacred place to strengthen our devotion to the Virgin Mary and the Divine Mercy.

The Scriptural Stations of the Cross, featured in the Chapel, are based on those celebrated by Pope John Paull II on Good Friday, 1991. They are presented as a way of reflecting more deeply on the Scriptural accounts of Christ’s passion.

We are awaiting the candle racks for the Chapel which were ordered over a year ago. The other parts of the candle racks, including the votive candles, have been delivered. Families and individuals who would like to contribute towards the Chapel renovation are welcome to do so. We would like to acknowledge the efforts of Architect, Jun Lee, Thomas Tan, project coordinator, his wife Peggy, Bill Tapuska, and Cougar Construction.

Healing Lines

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” Jesus is clear in His messages about how we should treat others. Let us emulate His message of peace as we help those around us who are in need of support as they struggle with violence, abuse and discrimination in their lives.

Divine Mercy Service

Sunday, April 16, 2-3pm

In a revelation to St. Faustina in October 1937, Jesus requested daily prayer at 3 pm to honor the hour of his death and to implore mercy for sinners. “If only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of my death. This is the hour of mercy for the whole world… In this hour, I refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion” (Diary, 1320). The Feast of the Divine Mercy will be celebrated in our church on the Sunday after Easter Sunday, April 16, starting at 2 pm and ending at 3 pm when we honor the hour of Christ’s death on the cross. You are invited to a reception at the gathering area after the service sponsored by Fr. Edmund and the parish council.

Together in Action 2023

Thank you to all parishioners for your generosity and sacrificial giving in helping St. Michael’s continue to reach our TIA goals. This year’s goal is $121, 243, and the campaign theme is taken from I John 3:18: “Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.” In a shared act of faith, let us join together and pool our resources to bring the Gospel message to a world in need. The TIA beneficiaries include local charities, ministries in support of parish life, Catholic missions serving across Canada, Mission Council work internationally, and Development and Peace efforts promoting social change and justice for all of our neighbours at home and abroad. How you can help: parishioners are now able to make donations by debit from a chequing or Visa and Mastercard account using St. Michael’s process, or by designating to our TIA campaign any contribution to St. Michael’s. For parishioners donating through United Way designations, please check to ensure that St. Michael’s Church (Registered Charity # 107909939RR0026) and TOGETHER IN ACTION are recorded on the pledge form.
