Name tag weekend & potluck Sunday

It’s name tag weekend: be sure to grab a name tag at the gathering area before Mass. Also, we’re inviting you, your family, and a friend to an evening of food and fellowship this Sunday, October 14, following the 5 p.m. Mass. Please bring a hot or cold food item ready to serve.


Ministry Fair this weekend

For this weekend and the next, we will be featuring our ministries for our fall Ministry Fair. Come and check out the different booths in the gathering area after Mass to see which ministry you’d be interested to volunteer with. Among those present this weekend are Altar Servers, Coffee Ministry, Creative Arts, Eucharistic Ministers, Marriage Ministry, Music Ministry, Prayer Ministry, and Men’s Ministry.


Oremus

Come and join Oremus on Monday, October 15, at 6 p.m. in the Day Chapel to pray the Vespers — the evening prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. If you’d like to join but couldn’t make it to church, please contact Heather at heathermontschilling@gmail.com.


Big News for ROOTS – NEW

ROOTS youth group will now be meeting on Thursdays — along with Calling Youth — for one big, weekly youth night here at St. Michael’s. We will continue to meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the green room beginning October 18. ROOTS is for youth in grades 4-6, and registration is ongoing throughout the year.


Sandwich Friday

Help us make sandwiches for the Drop-In Centre by filling loaves of bread with items such as peanut butter, ham, or turkey. You can drop off the prepared sandwiches here at church by 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 19. Thanks for your generosity!


Bishop’s Dinner 2018 featuring Tony Melendez – NEW

This year’s Bishop’s Dinner will be for the benefit of Catholic education in our diocese, supporting students of the five Catholic school districts in southern Alberta. Providing music for the evening is singer-songwriter Tony Melendez and the Bishop Grandin Marching Band. The event will be held at the Telus Convention Centre on Friday, October 19. Fatal Flaws: Film Screening and Q&A

St. Michael’s is excited to host a film screening of Fatal Flaws: Legalizing Assisted Death, with a Q&A on the issue by producer-filmmaker Kevin Dunn. All are welcome to this event on Monday, October 22 at 7 p.m. To learn more about the film or to watch the trailer, visit fatalflawsfilm.com.


Young adults BAM: Beers After Mass

Young adults of St. Michael’s: let’s get together for some faith and fellowship on Sundays after the 5 p.m. Mass. Meet us at the BAM sign in the gathering area after the 5 p.m. Mass.


NFP: Want a baby, or want to wait?

Do you want to practice green sex? Or are you struggling with porn? Do you want to divorce-proof your marriage? Problems with intimacy? Low fertility? Save the date: St. Michael’s will be hosting a Q&A forum about Natural Family Planning (NFP) on Friday, November 2 at 7 p.m. with Dr. Thomas Bouchard, Dr. Chantal Barry, Rikka Borras, Fr. Pro-Life Talk and Social

Join Cameron Cote from the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (CCBR) on Friday, November 16 at 7 p.m. as he presents on pro-life apologetics from a Catholic perspective, equipping you with the necessary conversational skills to defend life.


60th Anniversary Photo Directory: new dates

Having yourself or your family photographed for our new photo directory is entirely free, and families who participate will receive a free copy once it is published. Photography sittings are available on October 17-20 (almost full), November 7-10, and December 6-8 (NEW). Sacraments Update: Volunteers and Confirmation Registration

  • Volunteer leaders needed for First Reconciliation: We need volunteer teachers for our brand-new sacrament program this fall and next spring. Training is provided! The sessions will all be on either Saturday mornings OR afternoons (once a month) and you can help with one or all of them. The dates are: October 27, November 25, December 15, January 19, February 23, March 16, April 13, May 4, and May 11. If you can help support the sacrament journey of over 200 little ones, contact Maureen at mross@saintmichael.ca or at 403- 249-0423 ext. 126.
  • Confirmation 2019: Confirmation 2019 preparation for students in Grades 6 and up begins this November. Full details and online registration are now available on our website at saintmichael.ca/confirmation. The deadline to register is Monday, November 12.
