Parish Office Closure – New

Please note that the parish office will be closed on Good Friday, April 19, and Easter Monday, April 22 (but there will be Mass on Easter Monday at 9 a.m.)


We welcome Suzy Moutinho to St. Michael’s – New

We’re happy to announce that Suzy Moutinho will be joining St. Michael’s staff as our new Director of Operations. Suzy joins us from the Human Resources office at the Catholic Pastoral Centre and holds an MBA from Queen’s University, two degrees in Economics and Industrial Relations, and a CPHR designation. Her extensive career spans transportation, telecommunications, energy and not-for-profit sectors, in both operations and human resources. Suzy has been a board member of various community organizations and is currently a Director with the Clear Water Academy Foundation. She is also an experienced grief support facilitator with the AHS Grief Support program and actively volunteers at her parish. She will start on May 6, replacing Deacon Art in overseeing the management of St. Michael’s business office and operations.


Men’s Ministry: The Wild GooseNew

The wild goose was a term that the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit, who is not merely something relegated to Confirmation, but as a someone who desires a relationship with us. This free study program invites Catholic men into a profound, life-giving relationship with the Holy Spirit. When: Wednesdays at 6 a.m. beginning April 24 until July 23. The Men's Ministry invites all of you men on Wednesday mornings for The Wild Goose. Holy Week Updates

  • Eucharistic Adoration: there will be no Eucharistic Adoration on Good Friday. However, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on Holy Thursday, April 18, after the 7 p.m. Mass until midnight.
  • Easter Vigil social: all are invited to the social following the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday, April 20. Please bring finger food, snack, or appetizer to share with your family and fellow parishioners.
  • Incense will be used on Holy Thursday as well as during the Easter Vigil. Parishioners are also welcome to bring bells for the Easter Vigil.

GRAFTED IN: A MONTHLY TALK SERIES WITH DR. DON SWENSON

Join Don Swenson in the monthly talk series Grafted In: Reflections on the Jewish Roots of the Christian-Catholic Tradition and the Relationship Between Gentile and Jewish Believers in Jesus. The fourth talk will be on April 24 at 7 p.m. Check out the schedule and session topics here.


Sandwich Friday – New

Help make sandwiches for the Drop-In Centre by filling loaves of bread with items such as peanut butter, ham, or turkey. Drop off the prepared sandwiches here at church by 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 26. Thanks for your generosity!


FILM SCREENING: VOICES OF GRIEF

If you are grieving from the loss of a loved one, know someone who does, or if you’re interested in knowing how to successfully navigate through grief, you are invited to a free film screening of Voices of Grief: Honoring the Sacred Journey. Divine Mercy Sunday and Holy Hour

  • Bishop Emeritus Frederick Henry will be celebrating the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Mass on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 28. All are invited to attend.
  • We will have a Holy Hour at 3 p.m., with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, adoration, recitation of the chaplet of Divine Mercy, homily, and benediction. All are invited to attend. To learn more about the devotion to Divine Mercy, visit saintmichael.ca/lent.

Confirmation for Adult Catholics

If you are baptized in the Catholic Church and have received First Communion but aren’t confirmed yet, you are invited to take the Adult Confirmation Class, in preparation for Confirmation on Saturday, June 8, during the 5 p.m. Mass. Class schedule: Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning April 30 until May 28. To register or to learn more, please visit saintmichael.ca/confirmation.

Please note that the next opportunity for adult Confirmation will not be until Easter of 2020, so all those who are not yet confirmed are strongly encouraged to do so this year.


Creative Arts: Open Studio – New

The Creative Arts Ministry’s next open studio sessions will be on Wednesdays May 1, 8, 15, and 22, from 9:45 a.m. to noon. We invite all artists and aspiring artists to come and explore making art through videos and practice. Please bring your own supplies in any medium. Those who wish to attend can register by emailing artwalk@saintmichael.ca.


Worldwide Marriage Encounter – New

The next “Drop-In Circle” will be on Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m. This event will continue to run every first Friday of the month until June and is open to all couples who have attended a Marriage Encounter weekend in the past. St. Michael’s 60th Anniversary Mass

May 3, 2019 marks 60 years since our first Mass as a parish community was celebrated at John Kinahan School. On this day, we invite everyone to join us at our 60th anniversary Mass at 7 p.m., followed by a reception with our founding members. To learn more, visit saintmichael.ca/diamond.


UNITE Youth Celebration

In the past year, UNITE Youth has accomplished many things because of the support of all parishioners and schools in our community. As a sign of our gratitude, everyone is invited to a celebration on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m., which will feature our youth programming, future plans, and have an opportunity to say goodbye to our current team of NET missionaries. Calling New Sacrament Preparation Volunteers for September! – New

Are you retired or on leave from teaching and want to give back to the Church with your teaching gifts? Are you a university student looking for practical hours with children? Are you someone who loves children and sharing your faith with them? We are looking for Sacrament Preparation teachers for next school year (2019-2020). We meet one Saturday a month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with a small group of school-aged children from October to May (8 sessions), learning about Reconciliation and Eucharist. Training will be provided and team teaching is the norm! For further information, contact Maureen at mross@saintmichael.ca.


Taste of the World – New

Taste the flavours of the different countries represented at St. Michael’s during this year’s Taste of the World, happening on Saturday, June 5 after the 5 p.m. Mass. Food tickets will be sold for $1 each. For those who wish to sell food: sign up will be available at the gathering are beginning April 27-28 (please supply your own flag). In commemoration of our 60th anniversary, St. Michael’s has committed to participating in Habitat for Humanity’s Interfaith build days in May and June.
